Swapping on and across Soneium

Soneium is an Ethereum Layer 2 on the OP Stack, so gas is ETH and the mechanics match Optimism and Base. What stands out is its asset list: alongside the usual stablecoins it carries an unusually deep set of wrapped Bitcoin and staked-ETH tokens. Multiswap compares live routes into and out of Soneium and ranks them by net received.

What Soneium is

Soneium is a Layer 2 built on the OP Stack — the same framework as Optimism, Base and World Chain. Its wrapped-ETH contract sits at the standard Optimism predeploy address, and gas is paid in ETH, so there is no separate gas token to source before you can transact.

Its asset set is wider than most newer L2s. Dollar exposure comes in two forms, bridged USDC.e and USDT, and beyond those it lists several wrapped and staked derivatives: WBTC and a range of SolvBTC variants, plus wstETH, stETH, pufETH, STONE and nrETH on the Ethereum-staking side, and LINK.

  • Chain ID 1868, OP Stack Layer 2.
  • Gas is ETH — no separate gas token needed.
  • Two dollar assets: bridged USDC.e and USDT.
  • Deep wrapped-BTC and staked-ETH coverage for a newer L2.

Dollar assets: USDC.e and USDT

Soneium is one of the networks where you genuinely have to read the ticker. Its USDC is the bridged USDC.e representation, while Tether appears under the plain USDT symbol. So on the same chain, one dollar asset carries a bridged suffix and the other does not.

Select from the asset list for Soneium rather than typing a ticker — a quote naming plain USDC here will not resolve, even though USDT will. If you intend to move the dollar value onward later, note that bridged and native representations are not always interchangeable at the far end.

  • USDC on Soneium is bridged USDC.e.
  • Tether is available under the plain USDT ticker.
  • A route naming plain USDC on Soneium will not resolve.
  • Check representations before planning an onward hop.

Wrapped Bitcoin and staked ETH, and why the distinction matters

Several of Soneium's assets are derivatives rather than the thing they track. WBTC and the SolvBTC family represent Bitcoin value on an EVM chain; wstETH, stETH and the rest represent staked ETH positions. They are not native BTC and not plain ETH, and their behaviour depends on the issuer and mechanism behind each one.

For swapping purposes the practical point is narrower: these are distinct assets with their own liquidity. A route into SolvBTC is not a route into native Bitcoin, and if native BTC is what you actually want, the destination to choose is the Bitcoin network itself.

  • Wrapped BTC assets are representations, not native Bitcoin.
  • Staked-ETH tokens carry issuer and mechanism risk of their own.
  • Each derivative has its own liquidity and its own routes.
  • For native BTC, select the Bitcoin network as the destination.

How Multiswap covers Soneium

Multiswap compares the engines that quote Soneium and ranks them by net output after routing and estimated gas. Routes in, routes out and same-chain swaps are compared together, so the choice is made on the amount that actually arrives.

Soneium uses standard EVM addresses, so an address alone cannot tell you which network you are sending to. Confirm the destination network as carefully as the asset, and on an unfamiliar route send a small test amount before committing the full value.

  • Routes into and out of Soneium compared side by side.
  • Ranked on net received after routing and estimated gas.
  • Standard EVM addresses — confirm the network, not just the address.
  • Non-custodial throughout — you swap from a wallet you control.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I swap on Soneium with Multiswap?

Yes. Multiswap compares live routes into and out of Soneium across the engines that quote it, ranked by the net amount you receive, and swaps are non-custodial.

What token pays for gas on Soneium?

ETH. Soneium is an OP Stack Layer 2 and uses ETH for gas rather than a separate gas token, so nothing extra is needed before you can transact.

Why is USDC shown as USDC.e on Soneium but USDT is not?

Because the available USDC is the bridged representation, while Tether is listed under the plain USDT ticker. Select either from the Soneium asset list; a quote naming plain USDC on this network will not resolve.

Is SolvBTC on Soneium the same as Bitcoin?

No. SolvBTC and similar assets represent Bitcoin value on an EVM chain; they are not native BTC and carry the risk of the mechanism behind them. If you want native Bitcoin, choose the Bitcoin network as your destination.

How do I bridge from Ethereum to Soneium?

Select your asset on Ethereum as the source and the Soneium representation as the destination. Multiswap compares the engines quoting that route and shows a net-of-fee estimate before you confirm.

Is Soneium an Ethereum Layer 2?

Yes, built on the OP Stack like Optimism, Base and World Chain. It settles to Ethereum and pays gas in ETH, which is why the swap mechanics match those chains closely.
